BOOK LAUNCH OF《THE MEMORIES OF MEI HO HOUSE》
HONG KONG YOUTH HOSTELS ASSOCIATION WAS CHOSEN BY THE DEVELOPMENT BUREAU AS ONE OF THE PARTNERS OF THE REVITALIZING HISTORICAL BUILDINGS THROUGH PARTNERSHIP SCHEME IN 2009

6 story contributors attended the book launch and shared their old stories of resettlement blocks.One of the “Seven Sisters”, a story contributor of the book, requested the author Mr Cheung (right) for autographs after she received the book.《The Memories of Mei Ho House》priced at $98, now available for sale in all major bookstores, head office of Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association in Nam Cheong and YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel.

Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association was chosen by The Development Bureau as one of the partners of the “Revitalizing Historical Buildings Through Partnership Scheme in 2009”. The Association was entrusted with the task of preserving and transforming the “Mei Ho House”, a fine early example of the style of public housing in the territories  first resettlement estate, into the “YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel”.“Heritage of Mei Ho House”, the integral liverhood museum of the Hostel,that was inaugurated on 21 October. It catalogues the history of the first resettlement estate, evokes the collective memories of a generation of Hong Kong and demonstrates the renowned indomitable “Lion Rock Spirit” to the fullest.

In order to preserve these valuable and intangible assets, the Association together with the Joint publishing (Hong Kong) Co.,Ltd, published a new book《The Memories of Mei Ho House》,in Chinese《美荷樓記》and held a book launch recently. Through 13 true and touching stories of the old residents, the lofty and indomitable spirit  of those days shines through despite the harsh living standard then prevailing.

The book includes stories of the renowned Hollywood movie Director, Madam Lau, the very helpful neighbor, Eldy Chan, Chairman of Hong Kong Muay Thai Association, Prof.Dennis Fan Kin Keung, Associate Dean, Faculty of Business Administration of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Perry Mak, Managing Director and Executive Director Publisher of Hong Kong Economic Times etc.
