NGONG PING CHARITY WALK 2018
RUN WITH MR. MEN LITTLE MISS!
Organized by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA), the Ngong Ping Charity Walk 2018 (NPCW 2018) has long been known as a popular annual event at Lantau Island. The event has come to the 12th year and attracted nearly 1500 participants. This year HKYHA has collaborated again with Sanrio – Mr. Men Little Miss being the ambassador of “Ngong Ping Charity Walk 2018”. We are also honoured to have Mrs. Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan, JP, Permanent Secretary for Education to officiate the opening ceremony of the event.
NPCW 2018 is committed to promoting environmental and heritage protection by encouraging the public to get in touch with the distinctive natural and historical attractions of Lantau Island. The fund raised will be used to support our efforts in promoting environment conservation, youth development and cultural exchange. Part of the donations this year will be used to sponsor the students from Yuen Kong Kindergarten, Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College and Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School, giving them an opportunity to explore the nature and to experience the love and caring from the community.
Brand New Routes to Enhance the Challenge
NPCW 2018 offers 3 routes – two competition routes “Elite 29 km” and “Challenge 20 km”; and one leisure route “Green Walk 10 km”. The two competition routes, “Challenge 20km” and “Elite 29km” are designed by expert, and definitely an extensive test for all mountain runners! Challenge 20km is a shorter route, which runners will conquer the 2nd highest hill in the city, Lantau Peak. Elite 29km is the longest route ever, requiring runners to complete Wong Lung Hang Country Trail, Shek Pik Country Trail and Nei Lak Shan Country Trail in 8 hours.
Walk and Ride on Cable Car to Discover the Beauty of Lantau
Green Walk 10km is a leisure route which allows participants to observe ecological footprint in Lantau Island, enjoying a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of a hectic urban life. Starting from Citygate Outlets, participants pass through Wisdom Path and Ngong Ping Village. Many families with small kinds and beginners are joining us this year, as they enjoy taking the free single ride of Ngong Ping 360 cable car back to Tung Chung, after the leisure hiking. Interacting mini-games themed “Treasures in Lantau” has also been set up by the Sustainable Lantau Office along the route of “Green Walk 10km” to promote the conservation of Lantau.
