“HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2018”
PROGRAMME SERIES
The theme of the International Museum Day (IMD) 2018 is “Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics”. The Heritage of Mei Ho House organised a series of programmes to help more Hong Kong people of different ages to understand the stories of public housing and the development of the Sham Shui Po community by taking a closer look at the changes between the past and present.
In the public programme “Post-90s Guided Sham Shui Po Small Shops Tour” led by “Our Unique Village” which was established by a group youngsters born in the 1990s, participants could visit the small shops in Sham Shui Po. It is hoped that the tour could promote cultural exchange in the community and let the participants rethink their attitudes as consumers.
Additionally, in the screening of “The Wright Chronicle”, the audience could watch this documentary film produced by “Urban Diary” in the UK to remember the contribution of Mr Michael Wright (1912-2018).
The “Mei Ho House ‘Public Housing Childhood Toys’ Family Workshop” was held during the Museum Day. The art educator, Ms Bing Bing, led a fun tour for children in the Heritage of Mei Ho House. As well as listening to stories about public housing, the children could look back on toys used in the past. Participants then made use of recycled materials to design different toys in creative ways. The workshop was an enjoyable experience for both parents and children.
