NGONG PING CHARITY WALK 2017
[Hong Kong, 15 January 2017] Organized by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA), the Ngong Ping Charity Walk (NPCW) 2017 has long been known as a popular annual event at Lantau Island. The event has come to the 11th year and near 1500 participants have enrolled. This year HKYHA has collaborated with Sanrio to have Pompompurin being the ambassador of “Ngong Ping Charity Walk 2017”. We are honoured to have Mr. Gregory So Kam-leung, GBS, JP, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, to officiate at the opening ceremony while Mr. Terry Liu, HKYHA Chairman and Ms. Imma Ling, Chairman of NPCW 2017 Organising Committee will also present to support the participants.
NPCW is committed to promoting environmental and heritage protection by encouraging the public to get in touch with the distinctive natural and historical attractions of Lantau Island. Through the event, the organiser also aims to promote healthy lifestyle and the backpacker culture. The fund will be used to support our current services, which include providing quality hostel services and carrying out youth programs.
Ms. Imma Ling, Chairmen of NPCW2017 Organising Committee, expressed her gratitude to event supporters and participants, ‘Through Ngong Ping Charity Walk, we hope to promote the unique backpacking culture and environmental protection to more travel lovers.
The officiating guest Mr. Gregory So Kam-leung, GPS, JP encourages everyone to embrace challenges with great courage, ‘The youth hostels are like the ever burning lamps in life, providing a safe and economical accommodation for teenagers to explore the world, meet interesting people in great places, and engage in culture exchanges to broaden the horizon.
Brand New Routes to Enhance the Challenge
NPCW 2017 offers 3 routes – two competition routes “Elite 28km” and “Challenge 20km”; and one leisure route “Green Walk 9km”. The challenge of both the competition routes has raised to a new level, as the length of the routes have extended from 17km and 23km to 20km and 28km respectively. “Challenge 20km” includes the “Giant M” which is indeed a local jargon coined by Hong Kong seasoned mountain runners, referring to the 2nd and 3rd highest hill in the city, Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak. The leisure route “Green Walk 9km” allows participants to stretch the legs and spend some carefree time in the outskirts of the city. The walk starts off at Citygate Outlets, get pass Shek Mun Kap and Fa Mun Traditional Path and culminate in the arrival at YHA Ngong Ping SG Davis Youth Hostel.
Get rid of Work, Enjoy a Health Sunday
Corporate Charity Category attracted commuters to put aside their work to enjoy a health Sunday. Civil Engineering and Development Department and Modern Terminals won the Best Participatory Award of Public Sector and Private Sector respectively, while Fook Wah Kun Kee Knitting Factory won the Top Fundraising Organisation Award.
Get the Pompompurin Walker’s Pack
All eligible participants of the “Ngong Ping Charity Walk 2017” are entitled to a Pompompurin Walker’s Pack specifically designed for the event, which includes a tote bag, an event tee, a limited version of finisher’s medal and surprising gifts from other sponsored brands.
Charity Sales and Workshops
Charity Sales will be held at the Square of Citygate Outlets, Tung Chung. Publics are welcome to walk around and do some shopping of Sanrio gifts and Pompompurin balloons. Apart from Charity Sales, public are welcome to join the workshop including Pompompurin glass-painting and Pompompurin postcard silk-printing. Participants can even post their postcards on-site. Last but not least, the Pompompurin Photo Booth invites everyone to take an instant photo with Pompompurin to end the fruitful day.
