YHA MEI HO HOUSE YOUTH HOSTEL:
MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL CELEBRATION AT MEI HO HOUSE THE INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HONG KONG

This year, thank you again for the support of Sham Shui Po District Council to YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel, we will organise the “Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration at Mei Ho House – The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong” to gather the resident of Sham Shui Po and the travellers to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on 15 September 2018 (Saturday).

Through the workshop and the night gathering, the scene of festival celebration of the past in Hong Kong will be shown. The event also aims at facilitating the conservation and transmission of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) items. All the participants can enjoy a different Mid-Autumn Festival.

1. Afternoon Workshop

Lantern Crafting Workshop

The master of lantern crafting in Sham Shui Po is invited to teach participants the traditional way to make the lantern by hand, by simple materials such as bamboo splints, rice paper strips and so on to turn into a paper lantern.

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 pm

Venue: Function Room, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel

Instructor: Bo Wah Paper Craft Instructor

Target: Aged 10 or above

Quota: 20 people, first-come, first-served

Free of charge.

If absent or cancel without any reason after successful registration, the chance of joining future activities will be affected.

The activities will  mainly be conducted in Cantonese.

 

2. Mid-Autumn Night Gathering 

Mid-Autumn Night Gathering @ Front Courtyard

During the Night Gathering, the resident of Sham Shui Po and the our in-house guests will be gathered at the front courtyard of YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel to join the celebration. Participants will not only enjoy the ICH food which is made by Sham Shui Po small shops, but also understand the history of ICH items.

Time: 7:00-9:00pm

Venue: Front Courtyard, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel

Registration: Please register at the reception counter, first-come, first-served.

In case of bad weather and unforeseen circumstances, the Heritage of Mei Ho House reserves the right to alter, amend or withdraw the programmes.

To complement the Mid-Autumn event, the Heritage of Mei Ho House will specifically open until 9pm. Come with your families and friends to relive the stories attached to the past lives of Mei Ho House! You are welcome to bring your own lanterns and share the fruit with others. Please note that no lighting of fire is allowed in the area of the Youth Hostel. In order to be more environmentally friendly, it is not recommended to play liquid glow sticks as they cannot be reused or recycled.
